Abrar Fahad Murder: 20 Sentenced to Death, 5 to Life Imprisonment

The High Court has upheld the verdict in the murder case of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) student Abrar Fahad, sentencing 20 individuals to death and 5 others to life imprisonment.
The verdict was delivered today (Sunday) by the bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Syed Enayet Hossain.
Abrar Fahad's body was found on October 6, 2019, in the Sher-e-Bangla Hall of BUET. Abrar, a second-year student in the Electrical and Electronics Engineering department, was reportedly beaten to death. His father filed a murder case at the Chakbazar police station in Dhaka.
Following the investigation, police filed charges against 25 BUET students on November 13, 2019.
The court framed charges against the accused on September 15, 2020. On December 8, 2021, the Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 delivered a verdict sentencing 20 individuals to death and 5 others to life imprisonment.
