Two newly built service bridges on the Dhour-Ashulia route have been opened to traffic as part of the Dhaka-Ashulia Elevated Expressway project, providing an alternative route while construction of the main expressway continues.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Sheikh Robiul Alam inaugurated the bridges on Wednesday (September 2).
The bridges were constructed to maintain smooth movement between Dhaka, Ashulia and Savar during the ongoing expressway work and reduce difficulties for local residents. Both bridges will remain toll-free, and pedestrians will also be allowed to use them.
New Route to Improve Connectivity
Authorities expect the new bridges to make travel between Uttara and Ashulia, as well as Ashulia and Dhaka, easier. The alternative route could also help construction teams continue work on the main elevated expressway with less disruption to existing traffic.
For safety reasons, restrictions have been imposed on vehicle height. Vehicles exceeding the specified height limit will not be permitted to cross the bridges.
Bigger Expressway Network Ahead
Once the Dhaka-Ashulia Elevated Expressway is completed, the Dhaka EPZ will be directly connected to Kawla through Ashulia and linked with the existing Dhaka Elevated Expressway.
The combined network is expected to create an approximately 44-kilometre continuous elevated road connection from the airport through Kuril, Banani, Tejgaon and onward to Kutubkhali in Jatrabari.
The project also includes a multi-level interchange at Baipayl to tackle congestion, a dedicated airport access ramp and a separate connection to an MRT Line-1 station.
