Shakib Shines with Bat and Ball in GSL Debut Victory for Dubai

Bangladesh: Cricket all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan made an immediate impact in his Global Super League (GSL) debut for the Dubai Capitals, delivering a standout all-round performance that led his team to a 22-run win over Central Districts in the tournament opener held at Providence Stadium, Guyana, on Thursday.
The veteran Bangladeshi cricketer played a crucial role with both bat and ball. Batting first, Shakib remained unbeaten on 58 off 37 balls, striking seven boundaries and a six to help Dubai post a competitive total of 165 for 7 in 20 overs.
With the ball, the 38-year-old left-arm spinner turned the game on its head, opening his spell with a double-wicket maiden in the fifth over.
He trapped Neil Young (19 off 16) and Foxcroft (0) leg-before wicket in quick succession, putting Central Districts under early pressure at 30 for 2.
Shakib continued his dominance, clean bowling Josh Clarkson (12 off 10) and William Clark (20 off 19) to finish with exceptional figures of 4 for 13 in his four-over quota.
His efforts earned him the Player of the Match award and ensured a winning start for Dubai in the five-team competition.
Dubai Capitals will next take on Australia's Hobart Hurricanes in their second fixture, scheduled for today.
Meanwhile, the defending champions of the Bangladesh Premier League, Rangpur Riders—led by Nurul Hasan Sohan—will begin their campaign in the tournament's second edition against Guyana Amazon Warriors on the same day.
A much-anticipated clash between Shakib’s Dubai Capitals and Sohan’s Rangpur Riders is set for July 16.
