New Student Organization Announced by a Faction of Anti-Discrimination Activists

A faction of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement has announced the formation of a new student organization.
According to the coordinators, the official details of the organization will be finalized following a two-day public opinion survey.
They stated that students across the country, including those from Dhaka University, colleges, madrasas, and universities, will be consulted both online and offline over two days to determine the organization’s structure and direction.
The announcement was made at a press conference on Monday (February 17) at 4:30 PM in front of Madhu’s Canteen at Dhaka University.
Key figures present at the event included coordinators Abdul Kader, Abu Bakar Majumdar, and Hasib Al Islam.
Abu Bakar Majumdar stated, "We have not yet finalized the name or the official launch date of the organization. The decision will be made after a two-day public opinion survey."
He emphasized that this organization will not be affiliated with any political party, adopting the slogan “Student First, Bangladesh First.”
The announcement sparked discussions both online and offline, raising questions about whether this signified a split in the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
Following the press conference, Umaima Fatema, spokesperson for the convening committee of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, responded to inquiries, stating, "There is no conflict. This initiative has been taken with collective agreement."
She acknowledged that while no members of their convening committee were present at the announcement, the decision to form a student organization before launching a political party had been made with broad consensus.
Abdul Hannan Masud commented, "New political dynamics require a new form of student politics. We welcome a non-partisan student movement."
He added that individuals joining the new student organization would resign from the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement would continue as a pressure group, upholding the spirit of the July Movement and working towards national progress, he added.
