HEED Bangladesh, a private development organization, has awarded scholarships and financial assistance to meritorious students in Ghoraghat, Dinajpur.
A total of 24.5 lakh BDT was distributed among 582 students, with 8.1 lakh BDT granted to 162 students who achieved a GPA 5 and 16.4 lakh BDT allocated to 410 students who obtained a GPA 4.
The recipients included students from prestigious institutions such as Jahangirnagar University and Dhaka University.
The event’s chief guest, Anwar Hossain, Executive Director of HEED Bangladesh, highlighted the organization's five-decade-long commitment to socio-economic development. He stated that for the past 50 years, HEED Bangladesh has been actively engaged in education, healthcare, income-generation programs, and disaster relief.
He emphasized that the younger generation envisions a Bangladesh free of discrimination, and HEED Bangladesh aspires to support that dream. As Interim Government Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus has repeatedly emphasized, youth must take the lead in building a new Bangladesh, and HEED Bangladesh remains committed to making that vision a reality.
He further noted that, despite past criticisms, microfinance has played a transformative role in economic and social progress worldwide.
The organization continues to invest in education and entrepreneurship, ensuring that marginalized communities receive the support they need. Without proper education, development efforts would be in vain, and HEED Bangladesh is determined to prevent such a setback.
The organization, established in 1974, has overcome many challenges over the years and now stands as a collective entity serving its members rather than a privately owned enterprise.
He also urged HEED Bangladesh’s workers to remain dedicated to their mission of socio-economic development.
Upon Anwar Hossain’s arrival at the HEED Bangladesh office, he was welcomed with flowers by Credit Officers Shilpi Rani, Shanjili Murmu, Mimma Khatun, Tinku Rani, and Khukumoni. The event was inaugurated with a balloon and festoon release, marking HEED Bangladesh’s 50th anniversary.
The organization's cultural team performed songs and dances, adding to the festive atmosphere.
The event was attended by several distinguished guests, including Rafiqul Islam, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Ghoraghat, Advait Kumar Biswas, Assistant Director of HEED Bangladesh, Md. Nazmul Haque, Officer-in-Charge of Ghoraghat Police Station, M.A. Aziz, Regional Manager of HEED Bangladesh (Gaibandha Region), Mokarram Hossain, Branch Manager, and Hasan, Branch Manager.
In addition to scholarships, the program also provided medical assistance to members and financial aid to employees. The event was conducted by Training Officer Mitu Roy and concluded successfully.
