Iran has launched a missile attack on the US-operated Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, in what appears to be a retaliatory move following American airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities two days ago.
Qatar’s Defense Ministry confirmed the missile assault, describing it as a “blatant violation of sovereignty” and asserting that the country reserves the right to take further action.
However, officials said that all incoming missiles were intercepted by air defense systems, and no casualties or damage were reported.
According to a US defense official, the attack involved both short- and medium-range ballistic missiles fired from Iranian territory.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) characterized the operation as a “powerful response” to US aggression.
Amid rising tensions in the region, the Pentagon confirmed that President Donald Trump and senior defense leaders convened in the White House Situation Room shortly after the incident.
The US had reportedly anticipated possible retaliatory actions from Tehran and had already relocated some military aircraft from the base last week as a precaution.
BBC security correspondent Frank Gardner noted that Iran’s action appeared to be deliberate and carefully calibrated, increasing pressure on Washington to determine its next steps.
Meanwhile, Israel claims it has intensified its campaign against Iranian military infrastructure, launching strikes on routes leading to the Fordo nuclear facility and the notorious Evin prison in Tehran.
This latest escalation underscores the growing volatility in the Middle East, with global powers watching closely for the next move in the unfolding crisis.
