Barishal Clinch BPL Title with Record Chase Against Chittagong

Defending champions Fortune Barishal pulled off a record-breaking run chase to secure their Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) title, defeating Chittagong Kings by three wickets in a nail-biting final at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Friday.
Tamim Iqbal's blistering 54 off 29 balls and Kyle Mayers' 46 off 28 set the foundation for Barishal's pursuit of 194—the highest successful chase in a BPL final.
Rishad Hossain (18 off six) sealed the victory with three balls to spare, surpassing the previous record of Comilla Victorians’ 175-run chase in the 2023 final.
Chittagong pacer Shoriful Islam (4-34) fought back, removing Tamim and Dawid Malan in the ninth over and later dismissing Mayers and Mahmudullah (16) in the 18th.
Barishal needed 20 runs from the last two overs, but Rishad smashed a six off the first ball of the 19th over to tilt the match in their favor.
Chittagong’s slow over-rate penalty left them with only four fielders outside the 30-yard circle in the final over, allowing Barishal to capitalize. Rishad hammered another six off Hussain Talat’s first ball to wrap up the chase.
Earlier, Chittagong openers Khawaja Nafay and Parvez Hossain Emon put on a commanding 121-run stand—the highest opening partnership in a BPL final.
Emon dominated the Powerplay, smashing Kyle Mayers and Tanvir Islam for boundaries and sixes to take control early. Chittagong ended the Powerplay at 57 for no loss, with Nafay gaining momentum after a slow start.
Despite their strong batting display, Chittagong couldn’t defend their total as Barishal’s firepower led them to back-to-back BPL titles.
